An introduction to myself...

I'm currently working as a SQL Server DBA and have been for the last 4 years.. I started this blog so I could write about things I've learnt- with the added focus of following my journey into the cloud. Throughout my IT career my primary focus has been IT Operations. It's really interesting to see how my role will evolve and progress. My aim is to specialise in database technologies- as coming from a DBA background this is an area where my expertise lie- however I like to learn as many different areas as possible!

 

My aim is to not only help myself but also others that may be on a similar path to myself. I have a keen interest in learning new technologies. I love the idea of automating solutions and coming up with new ideas into how we can accomplish this. As the saying goes "work smarter.. not harder".

Over the past couple of years I've gained a number of different certifications: MSCA SQL 2016 in Database Administration and more recently a number of AWS certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Sys Ops Associate and AWS Solutions Architect Associate. I'm hoping to build towards my Solutions Architect Professional certification in the future.  I really have a passion for learning and believe it's something that is continuous- there is no end.

Outside of my career I am a keen gaming enthusiast: from building my own PC to trying out cool technology eg VR. Coming back more into the real world in my down time I like nothing more than taking the dogs on a walk (subject to the English weather!)

The world of DevOps will only become more popular in the future. I'd like this blog to demonstrate that change doesn't have to be a scary thing- in fact when we embrace change it can push is forward to places we never imagined going and take us on a journey that encourages growth. So buckle up... and enjoy my DevOps journey.
